Summer Reading List for Bloggers & Small Businesses

2015 summer reading list

Ah, summer! I love learning throughout the year, but summer is my favorite time to read. And the season I tend to read more. Lazy days, beach trips, hanging out on the sofa to escape the heat… all kinds of reasons to read more in the summer! Last summer, I was in the pre-launch phase of my blog and I travelled quite a bit. I devoured several books on the topics of social media and blogging. I want to share my favorites (that I may re-read) with you, as well as some new recommendations I plan on starting soon!
Platform by Michael Hyatt

1. Platform, by Michael Hyatt, is the first book I read when I decided to start my blog. It was the perfect place to begin! He helped me to understand how to make my platform stand out in a crowded marketplace. This book taught me so many of the basics I needed as I contemplated my new venture. I also learned how to find my fans and keep them, as well as how to implement extremely practical steps to build my platform.

Likeable Social Media

2. Likeable Social Media, by Dave Kerpen. I read the orginal last summer, but he has since come out with the revised second edition. I can’t wait to see what else the new version includes! This book is an easy and quick read with lots of excellent examples from the author’s personal experiences. I really began to grasp how to market with social media as I read the pages of the book. I love the subheading. Who doesn’t want to delight their customers, create an irresistible brand and really understand social media? Dave Kerpen teaches just that.

Launch

3. Launch, by Jeff Walker. This guy is the pro the pros go to when it’s time to launch anything. His book is a must-have for anyone considering starting a business or taking an existing one to the next level. He leads you step-by-step through how create a successful launch. I haven’t started it yet, but it is next on my list!

Jab Jab Jab

4. Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook, by Gary Vaynerchuk, is also on my list for the summer. His content comes highly recommended by some of the leading social media experts I follow. One reviewer describes the book like this: “Vaynerchuk is on a mission to strengthen marketers’ right hooks by changing the way they fight to make their consumers happy, and ultimately to compete.” I’m all for that!

Guy Kawasaki

5. The Art of Social Media, by Guy Kawasaki and Peg Fitzpatrick, is another book on my list for the summer. I heard Guy speak at Social Media Marketing World 2015, and I can say for sure… this guy is smart and innovative. The book is filled with practical tips, and insights from the former evangelist for Apple who was also one of the pioneers of business blogging and social media marketing. Can’t wait to dive into this one!

Do you have any must-read books for the summer? I’d love to hear what they are!

xoxo,
