DIY Buffet – Vintage Dresser Makeover

Next time you come across an old dresser that is far too ugly/dirty/out-dated to redeem, think twice before you stroll on by. It could become one of your favorite pieces for furniture! When my daughter-in-law Rachel saw the dresser below, she knew it was simply perfect for her DIY buffet. She found this gem on Craigslist.

She snagged it for $20! When you start your search for a dresser, look for a nice, solid wood piece with minimal damage. It really doesn’t matter if it’s missing drawers. You don’t need them.

Next she gathered supplies: spray primer (no more sanding!!!), brushes and paint.

And the boards that would become shelves. She measured the dimensions she needed and then had Home Depot cut boards to the correct size.

I love the paint color she selected… sort of a Tiffany blue!

First step after wiping down and removing hardware was to prime the piece. Yay for spray primer! I personally HATE sanding.

Next came the paint, followed by adding the shelves. With the exception of just a few areas of the piece, she only needed one coat of paint.

Next step was to add the hardware. Rachel got these cute drawer pulls from Hobby Lobby.

Then this beauty was ready to fill with all the pretty presents she and Trevor received last year at their wedding!

Rachel is so talented! I love the way she styled the finished piece. Here’s my creative D-I-L with my handsome boy Trevor celebrating their first Valentine’s Day married. 🙂
