This week I’ve been feeling artsy. So what did I do? Well, of course, I came up with five easy fall decorating ideas that I was able to use throughout my home. I hope you’ll be inspired to make your own home reflect this beautiful season!
Each of these projects took less than an hour from start to finish. First I’ll show you the steps to make each creation, and then I’ll show you how it all looks in in my home.
1. Painting Pinecones, Acorns and an Owl.
While we were camping last weekend, we gathered pinecones and acorns. As soon as I saw them, my creative juices started flowing.
Giant pinecones are so cool! After cleaning them up with a rinse from the hose, I laid them out on newspaper and grabbed my Shop Painting Supplies at MichaelsKrylon Metallic Gold Spray Paint from Michaels. I even had a little helper!
First, I painted one side, let them dry, and then rotated them to paint the other side.
This cute brown owl got a gold paint makeover as well.
LOVE the way they turned out.
2. Burlap Bunting.
I have tons of burlap left over from Patrick and Shandi’s rehearsal dinner last year, so I wanted to come up with some ideas to use it. This burlap bunting was so easy and looks cute over my kitchen window. The only supplies were burlap, decorative paper, card stock to create templates, a glue gun, jute and double stick tape.
First I created a triangle template with my black card stock and paper cutter. Then I made a pumpkin template from something I found at Michael’s that is sort of shaped like a pumpkin. I modified to make it look more pumpkin like.
From there I used a Sharpie to draw triangles on the burlap (using the template). I spent about 10 minutes cutting paper pumpkins out of decorative paper. Instead of glue, I used double stick tape to attach my pumpkins to the triangles. That way, I can remove them and attach something else to the burlap when I start decorating for Christmas.
The last step was to glue the jute to the back of the burlap triangles.
3. Glittered Pumpkins
After making my glittered pumpkin centerpiece last month, I was ready to do some more.
This time I used real white pumpkins instead of decorative pumpkins. Instead of dots, I did stripes.
The instructions for glittering the pumpkins are here. Love, love, love the little white pumpkins!
4. Chalkboard Inspired Bunting
For this project, I used black card stock, stencils and a chalk marker from Michaels. I started by using my paper cutter to create rectangles. After that I was ready to use my stencils and chalk marker.
Here’s how they turned out. My assistant gave his approval!
To create the bunting, I used some corkboard clothes pins from Michaels to attach the rectangles to a strand of jute. I tied some thin, black and white ribbon between the letters.
I haven’t done much stenciling in the past, and I really like the result! That led me to…
5. Stenciled Burlap Table Runner
My indoor table is decorated with the glittered pumpkin centerpiece, and I wanted my outdoor table to reflect the season as well. All it took was some more burlap, a stencil with leaves, white craft paint, a foam brush and some masking tape.
Before I started working, I put some Kraft paper under the burlap so the paint wouldn’t bleed through. From there I taped down the stencil and randomly painted on the leaves. I cut a V shape at both ends of the runner and tied them with ribbons.
Here’s how it all looks in Casa Tabler.
So there you have it. Five easy fall decorating ideas that took under an hour each. Have you done any crafty creations for fall? If so, share the details!
