Last weekend was one of those that leaves you longing another day off to recuperate. Maybe two days. So much laughter. Incredibly exhausting. Totally worth it! Nothing is better than fun with friends in the desert. And we had several visiting! We had one gang in from San Antonio, and then two more friends from Austin and Chicago.
As soon as they landed, we hit the ground running. Catching up over wine and delicious meals was our M.O. for the weekend. On Friday we enjoyed a girlfriend spa day at the JW Marriott Desert Springs. Gina, Renee and I were SPOILED as we enjoyed the spa suite all day. It’s wonderful. A lovely, private room with our own tub, shower, lockers and sitting area with fireplace.
Then there was our private patio with a hot tub, a cabana, and a table for a private lunch. I think my girlfriends liked it!
We each had a one-hour treatment. Mine was the most amazing facial I’ve ever experienced (ask for Cathy next time you visit the JW Spa!) After our treatments, we relaxed on the patio and ordered a very yummy lunch. We felt so blessed with our VIP spa experience!
Another of our friends, Karen, was supposed to make the trip but ended up having to cancel. So we had fun posing with “flat Karen” throughout the weekend.
Saturday evening we had a dinner party for the two sets of visitors (two of the gals were celebrating their 50th birthday!) The weather that day was so NICE after our months of hot, hot days and nights, so we enjoyed outdoor dining at Casa Tabler. It was even cool enough to use our firepit for the first time this fall. Tom made a signature birthday cocktail, and we dined on Brazilian flank steak, smashed potatoes and grilled romaine salad.
After dinner we feasted on an amazing chocolate chocolate chip cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes (with a sparkler candle, of course!) It was a seriously good cake, folks!
After cake, we kept the party going by getting silly and dancing to some 80s tunes. What is it about the Go-Gos thats make grown women immediately start dancing?
The night wouldn’t be complete without a Casa Tabler group selfie!
The next morning, we headed over to our very favorite breakfast spot in Palm Desert, Clementine Gourmet Marketplace & Cafe, for a delicious brunch. Of course we started with a round of Clementine’s amazing Bloody Marys. I loved the spicy salt rimming the glass!
I enjoyed one of the specials, which was a delicious, smokey tuna stuffed avocado. It was simply A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
Tom opted for the short rib sandwich with homemade chips to die for. Gina and Renee split the best deep-dish serving of Quiche Lorraine you’ll find anywhere. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their brunch entrees!
Our server, Deborah, was the best! Knowledgeable, funny and hospitable, all wrapped up in one. We all decided she should be our new friend.
Clementine has an eclectic marketplace and a bakery filled with decadent goodness. After remodeling this summer, the restaurant now serves dinner and features a bar as well. If you haven’t checked it out, swing by on your next visit to the desert!
Later in the day I took the girls to the airport and hugged them tightly as we said goodbye. Dear friends are the BEST! So I’m still recuperating from all the fun, but enjoying the happy memories we shared!

Yum looks like a fun time! Now I really need to drag my husband to Clementines next time we’re at the desert house 🙂
