Have you ever watched God literally open a door for you in a way that confirmed he knew the desires of your heart? I can’t say this happens to me all the time, but when it does, I find myself humbled and awestruck.
He did this in my life recently in a BIG way!
It was a Tuesday. I saw an email in my spam folder from Brendon Burchard, sharing that registration was ending at midnight for his new live event, Infuencer 2019. I was immediately intrigued by the conference speakers, and the best part? It was happening right here at the San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina where our boat is located!
Then I discovered a problem. Brendon’s email had landed in my inbox on Monday, so registration had already ended.
And I knew in my heart I was supposed to be there.
So I set about to write the most compelling email I could possibly write to Brendon and his team; one that would convince them to allow me to register. I sent the email off and prayed. Around midnight I got a response.
It was — for sure — the nicest rejection letter I’ve ever received. “No more tickets available,” and ending with, “Cheering you on, today and always!” >Sigh.<
Undeterred, I awoke the next day, pack up, and headed to San Diego with Rosie and Rowdie. I was going to do everything possible to go to this event that was literally taking place in my backyard!
Later that evening, I headed up to the registration area, praying along the way. “God, you know the desires of my heart and what is to be. I ask you to bring it on, whatever my experience here is supposed to look like. Whether attending, volunteering, or simply connecting with others who are attending.”
It’s amazing what ended up happening! Not only did I land a ticket, but I landed a FREE ticket!

Did I mention I knew in my heart I was SUPPOSED to be there? I soon learned exactly why God opened the door for me to attend!
Brendon’s tagline is Live, Love, Matter. Can I just say… I haven’t been doing ANY of those well lately. It’s been a challenging year, to say the least. Business struggles I couldn’t have predicted nor controlled. Then personal and physical struggles, most notably, breaking my tibia and fibula after a fall on our boat. Surgery on both sides of my ankle. Longgggg recovery. Still recovering, almost FIVE MONTHS later!
Little did I know God was about to speak to my pain, my hurt, and my disappointments through the words of Brendon Burchard and Rachel Hollis (author of New York Times Best Seller Girl Wash Your Face) at Influencer 2019!
Here are a few of those words…
When we’re hurt, we build walls.
We build these walls to protect ourselves from the “bad guys,” the pain, and the disappointments. The things we just don’t want to deal with or experience. Unfortunately those walls also block out the good… amazing opportunities, growth, blessings, relationships, and more that God has for us.
Friends, I’ve built walls and have been cowering behind them this year. I no longer want to be blocking out God’s BEST for me because I’m scared of the negative, the potential failure, and the inevitable disappointments in life. I know I have what it takes to handle each one. And you do, too!
You’ll never get to be great, until you’ve put out some “good enough.”
When you’ve been hurt or when you’ve lost some of your confidence, it’s easy to get caught up in the idea that what you have to offer isn’t great, isn’t good enough to put out there yet. But we have to be willing to put out good enough before we can even get to the great! Rachel Hollis reminded us that it’s the failures that give us the clarity we need for success. She challenged us to “get out there and suck at something this month!” Y’ALL! I am ready to put good enough into the world. I’m willing to suck at it in order to grow and learn so I can get to GREAT!
Tomorrow is not guaranteed.
Of course, we all know this. But Rachel took it a step further and literally pierced my heart with these words…
We’ve all been called to do something, and God has equipped us to do it. He’s given us gifts. And if we’re not using the gifts he’s given us, we’re squandering them. In fact, we might just squander them up until the day we’re not here anymore, and we don’t know when that day will be.
No more will I squander the gifts God has given me!
I want to live. I want to love. And I want to matter. I want to have a life that matters. And I encourage you to do the same. Because it’s worth it. We have to go for it. We have to fight for it. Just like I fought complacency and made it through the doors of that conference.
I’m so grateful for those of you who bless me by reading and listening to what I’ve learned! I encourage you this week to take that step of boldness to truly LIVE, LOVE, and MATTER. You can do it! God is by your side. Be bold and watch what happens… Watch the magic unfold!
xoxo,
