My future daughter-in-law and I have been working to master this perfect spring cocktail. It all started when my neighbor Nikki brought me about two dozen grapefruits from the tree in her yard. I was eating them for breakfast and snacks, but, quite frankly, they were overtaking my refrigerator, and I had to figure out what to do with them! And so Rachel and I made our first Summer Grapefruit Spritzer with freshly squeezed grapefruit. AMAZING!
Today we decided to make our summer favorite again, sans fresh grapefruit. But it’s still super yummy! So here’s how we did it.
First, I grabbed some basil from the garden. I’m new to gardening in the desert, and by far, the basil is the happiest!
Next I gathered the other ingredients.
Plus, to sweeten it up just a bit, I added a squirt of stevia.
And here’s how it turned out! Even more enjoyable is that I served it in a genuine mid-century cocktail glass that was grandmother’s. WIN on all levels!
Now don’t be shy to try this, even if you aren’t a fan of grapefruit juice. Neither was I! Step out of your comfort zone if necessary. You’ll be glad you did!
INGREDIENTS:
2 oz. vodka
2 oz. grapefruit juice
Muddled basil
Splash of club soda
Squirt of stevia
Enjoy!
xoxo

Wow…that sound inviting, but because I have an allergy to alcohol, have you tried it without the alcohol? I love grapefruit!
What a great blog, I really like it! And I shall try it without the alcohol and let you know if it passes the taste test! I wonder if the Drinks that I like that taste exactly like grapefruit but has no calories…its is called Cascade!

PS….exactly what is MUDDLED BASIL? I am not experienced in muddling my basil plants! 🙂
Very fun idea to be starting a blog, Andrea!
You think you are new to blogging — just wait until you see my attempts to be a part of the experiment. So what is muddied basil? I haven’t seen that description in a recipe before. Also, would there be a non-alcoholic version of this spritzer — have you tried it without vodka? What do you lose in doing so or would you suggest another flavor alternative?
I love the idea of a refreshing summer grapefruit beverage!
Thanks for stopping by! I think the drink would be just as good without vodka! I would do one part club soda, two parts juice. Taste and adjust. Okay… the muddling… put your basil in the bottom of a glass. Add a small amount of the club soda. Then, since you don’t have a wooden muddler, just use a spoon to press into the basil repeatedly. It breaks it down and expels its juice so that it adds more flavor to the beverage!
Sounds delicious!! Love the blog! You go!!! xoxoxo
Thank you, Jenny!
Love the grapefruit spritzer recipe, Andrea! I will have to give it a try. What else are you and that darling daughter-in-law-to-be of yours cooking up. How are wedding plans coming along?
Thanks, Teri! Wedding plans are going well! We’ve had a blast together this summer. xoxo
Thanks Andrea! I will be doing lots of entertaining this month and the next. Your suggestions will help.
I want to hear your ideas, too! Happy entertaining! xoxo
Yum! This looks delightful!
I have been on such a grapefruit kick lately and this sounds delicious!
I’m not a huge grapefruit fan but all the grapefruit cocktails are making me really thursty. haha. I always think it’s interesting when people add basil to their cocktails. I have yet to try it but I think it would give such an awesome flavor. If you’re interested, I have a linkup every Thursday called Thursty Thursday. I would love for you to stop by today and link this up. Hope to see you!! Cheers!! hopelesslyeverafter.blogspot.com

I’m always looking for ways to use my garden fresh basil, and I think I just found a winner. I would love to experiment with a non-alcoholic version of this drink, it sounds super refreshing.
