One thing you can count on about social media is that there will always be more to learn. I learn something I didn’t know about every social media virtually every day! Then, of course, social media platforms are constantly changing. So whether it’s new to me or new to a platform, I can always learn/do/communicate more or better!
Starting this week, I’m going to compile tips to share that will help bloggers in the crazy and overwhelming social media learning process. (After all, we bloggers need to support each other however possible!) Sometimes these tips will be something I’ve just learned or implemented. Other times the tips might encompass something I’ve been doing with success for a while that I think you would want to know about. So, here we go with week one…
Instagram Tip of the Week
We all know how important consistent engagement is to our social media platforms. I was recently surprised to discover than I could receive notifications when someone became a new follower or liked one of my posts. I immediately changed that in my settings because I always want to engage in a timely fashion!
Periscope Tip of the Week
Always address your replay viewers. People can only comment if they are watching you live on a smartphone. But viewers watching the replay or watching from their desktop computer might have questions, too. To address this, tell people at the very beginning of the scope that they can tweet you if they have any questions or feedback. That way you can easily answer them.
Facebook Tip of the Week
Share your new posts both on your like page and on your personal Facebook page. Why? Your personal page content is always going to reach more people than your like page. In fact, some say that your like page will only reach 6-10% of your fans! (Isn’t that disheartening?) I’ve recently started sharing to my personal page a slightly different way that makes the process EASIER and also gives the original post on my like page a bit of a boost in reach.
Here’s how to do it: After publishing a post on your like page, go back and click on the time stamp (which will appear right next to the name of who published the post and is directly above the content you typed in your post). After clicking on the time stamp, copy the url and paste that (not the URL from your blog post) onto your personal Facebook page. One bonus of posting this way is that the image you selected for your like page will automatically populate on your personal page when you paste the link.
Pinterest Tip of the Week
Group boards are IT! I’m pretty blown away that I was already invited to contribute to several group boards but didn’t realize what a gem they are. And I wasn’t using them. Then I started pinning to the ones I was a contributor to, and I began to request to contribute to others. I’m not exaggerating when I say that my repins started exploding overnight! To learn the best way to utilize and become a contributor to boards, check out this post by Bonnie, The Pin Junkie. She does an excellent job explaining the whole concept. In addition, she provides a lists of boards that have been posted by creators that you begin to peruse.
Twitter Tip of the Week
There are tons of cool people on Twitter who will retweet your content daily. So interact with them! It’s called social media for a reason. So let’s be social! When people comment on a post, retweet or ask a question, promptly take the time to respond. Even individuals with massive followings will appreciate and take notice of your Twitter sociability! I know, it’s not easy. There are days when all the tweeting that happens on my account are scheduled, and I don’t have time to interact. But it’s important enough to actually put this interaction on my daily to-do list. You should, too!
Hope you enjoyed this week’s tips! If you have further questions about any of them, tweet me and I’ll respond! You can also leave questions for future topics in the comments below. See you on social media!

Nice post! Thanks for all the info.
Andrea, I still can’t find my “time stamp” on Facebook that you are talking about. I’m at Christman’s Creations on fb as well as Cyndee Christman.
Thanks for the tips. I hope you can help me with my time stamp.
Hi Cyndee, I’ll reach out to you and explain further!
Thanks, Andrea, for these tips. I’m still learning all the social media skills and I appreciate your clear explanations.
Thanks for stopping by! I’m totally still learning too. 🙂
that is such a fantastic periscope tip I had not considered. I thought about the fact they couldn’t ask questions but not just to remind them they could just tweet me
Happy to help!
These are great! I totally loved your Periscope idea, I never even thought of that. The Pinterest tip is helpful, too. I’ve ignored group boards.
Thanks Andee!
That is a great tip re Periscope! I’m still such a novice with it so love learning everyone’s scoping tips!
