Summer Reading List for Entrepreneurs
Today, I’m thrilled to be heading to Orange County for my second annual Marketing Impact Academy Live Event by Chalene Johnson. It’s going to be an awesome few days of learning and implementing powerful ideas into my biz as well as getting to know fellow entrepreneurs!
{Yes, I get to head to the coast for this event, for the 4th week in a row! This girl knows how to escape the Palm Desert heat. :)}
But I want to share my summer reading list for entrepreneurs with you before I go! I loved my top picks for Summer Reading 2015 and can’t wait to get through this list as well. Maybe I’ll complete them all by the end of summer; maybe I won’t. But I’ll definitely read all these by the end of the year!
My Summer Reading List for 2016!
The School of Greatness by Lewis Howes
I was honored to see Lewis Howes in person at last year’s Marketing Impact Academy Live. This guy is genuine and brilliant!
In The School of Greatness, Howes shares the essential tips and habits he gathered in interviewing “the greats” on his wildly popular podcast of the same name. In discussion with people like Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson and Pencils of Promise CEO Adam Braun, Howes figured out that greatness is unearthed and cultivated from within. The masters of greatness are not successful because they got lucky or are innately more talented, but because they applied specific habits and tools to embrace and overcome adversity in their lives. Pat Flynn is the host of one of my favorite podcasts, Smart Passive Income. I got to meet Pat at Social Media Marketing World this year, and he’s such a nice, humble guy!
His new book, Will It Fly?, will challenge you to think critically, act deliberately, and dare greatly! Think of the book as your business flight manual, something you can refer to for honest and straight-forward advice as you begin to test your idea and build a business that takes off and soars.

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo
This one is most likely on many a summer reading list. (And goodness, do I need it!)
The #1 New York Times best-selling guide to decluttering your home from Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes readers step-by-step through her revolutionary KonMari Method for simplifying, organizing, and storing.
Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly simplify and organize your home once, you’ll never have to do it again. Most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom you to pick away at your piles of stuff forever. The KonMari Method, with its revolutionary category-by-category system, leads to lasting results. In fact, none of Kondo’s clients have lapsed (and she still has a three-month waiting list). People Over Profit by Dale Partridge
Dale is another one of my favorite podcasters! Check him out at Startup Camp. I love how he combines Christian values with practical business sense.
Serial entrepreneur and business visionary Dale Partridge reveals seven core beliefs that create success by putting people first. The Sevenly founder uncovers the seven core beliefs shared by consumers, starters, and leaders behind this transformation. These beliefs have enabled Dale to build a multimillion-dollar company that is revolutionizing the marketplace. He believes they are the secret to creating a sustainable world that values honesty over deception, transparency over secrecy, authenticity over hype, and ultimately, people over profit. (Read More)
The Eventual Millionaire by Jaime Tardy
This book by Jaime Tardy (who also hosts an excellent podcast I recommend) has one central message: become a millionaire by learning from millionaires.
There are many ways to become a millionaire, but research has often shown that creating your own business is one of the best ways to build wealth. The Eventual Millionaire will lay the foundation for those looking to start their own business and work their way toward financial independence and a fulfilled life. (Read More)
Virtual Freedom by Chris Ducker
Chris Ducker is so smart… That’s a good enough reason to read his book. But my recent hiring of a virtual assistant (and the huge impact he has already made at Tabler Party of Two) has me wanting to learn more!
Virtual Freedom: How to Work with Virtual Staff to Buy More Time, Become More Productive, and Build Your Dream Business is the step-by-step guide every entrepreneur needs to build his or her business with the asset of working with virtual employees. Focusing on business growth, Ducker explains every detail you need to grasp, from figuring out which jobs you should outsource to finding, hiring, training, motivating, and managing virtual assistants. People are really talking about this one! I’m curious to read and learn more.
In this instant New York Times bestseller, pioneering psychologist Angela Duckworth shows anyone striving to succeed—be it parents, students, educators, athletes, or business people—that the secret to outstanding achievement is not talent but a special blend of passion and persistence she calls “grit.”
In Grit, she takes readers into the field to visit cadets struggling through their first days at West Point, teachers working in some of the toughest schools, and young finalists in the National Spelling Bee. She also mines fascinating insights from history and shows what can be gleaned from modern experiments in peak performance. Finally, she shares what she’s learned from interviewing dozens of high achievers—from JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon to New Yorker cartoon editor Bob Mankoff to Seattle Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll. Thanks for some more ideas to add to my reading list!! I already had The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up on my list. A few others you make be interested in is The Best Yes, Miracle Mornings and Start with Why.
I love these book suggestions – many I’ve heard of but haven’t read. I’ve read Life Changing Magic. I’d love to read People Over Profits – Ive heard an interview with him and loved what he had to say. I just got The One Thing from the library and I’m excited to start reading it!
I just added all of these books to my to-read list. I’m also a huge fan of Pat Flynn but didn’t realize he produced another book worth adding to my to-read list.
Thank you for sharing all of these great suggestions with us on the #HomeMattersParty. We hope to see you next week when we open our doors at 12 AM EST on Friday.
