Three Months, Two Terriers and a Hotel

rowdiepumbieroadtrip2The biggest adventure T and I have had in years began last December 1st when we packed our two pups in our Ford F150 (that’s them above!) and headed from our beloved San Antonio to the California desert. Indian Wells, to be precise. We left behind our eldest, Patrick, and his precious wife, Shandi, our best friends, the church we loved, the beautiful home where we had raised our kids and more. This was hard stuff! In the weeks leading up to the move, I waited for the tears to come. But they never did. I know in my heart that the peace I felt — and continue to experience — is from God alone! I’m so grateful for that part of the journey.

Back to the adventure… T started the position of general manager at a lovely resort in Indian Wells. This is where we would call home until our house in Texas sold, a process that we never dreamed would take three whole months. The resort does not accept furry friends, but an exception was naturally made for us, as we had no other options. Pumbaa, Rowdie and I had to sneak down side stairs and exits for their daily business and walks. We were expected to be very incognito at all times, but that’s hard to do with two terriers!

tree2Christmas came quickly. I spent time doing crafts and decorating our hotel room to make it “Christmasy,” and even bought a new tree and ornaments that fit the mid-century look we want for our new home.  At one point we received an offer on our home, but it later fell through.  We kept looking at house… after house… after house… We ate every single meal at a restaurant for three months. (This is something I do not recommend to anyone try to keep her girlish figure!) We found pet friendly restaurants (note picture below!), went hiking, explored our new town, attended some swanky events and looked at even more houses.

Our Texas house finally closed, and we moved into our cute, little mid-century cottage, downsizing by 1/2! (We managed to get rid of 3/4 of our possessions before the moving van arrived.) “Cute little mid-century cottage” means “no closet space to speak of,” so we had to purge even more. We’ve had a blast decorating our home, and will post some pictures of it soon. It is located just two blocks from El Paseo, the Rodeo Drive of the desert, they say. It offers Anthropologie, J Crew and just about every other store or restaurant a girl could ever want!

These days, we are enjoying the moments we can escape the (115 degree) heat, and we are so thankful for the adventure we are on!
