I’ve decided that 2018 is my year for HEALTH… physical, emotional, and spiritual. Last year I was in survival mode. This year? I’m reclaiming what’s mine!
I’ve laid out plans to make this happen, and I take intentional steps every day to better my health. In the past, I’ve had a habit of sacrificing my physical health when I get super busy working on the blog. I have come to realize that the best way to make physical health a priority is to focus on it BEFORE my work day begins. That means exercise and fueling my body come before work and busy-ness!
I start each morning by planning my meals and snacks for the day, with an emphasis on veggies, lean protein, healthy grains, and a little fruit. I love to start my day with a delicious green smoothie that packs a little heat (i.e., a couple of slices of jalapeño). The other ingredients are kale, cucumber, celery, and juice squeezed fresh from a lemon plucked off my Meyer lemon tree out front! I add a little ice, and, instead of plain water, I use nutrient-dense Kiwi Cucumber wanu water.
I love wanu water (with its BPA-free packaging) because it is chock full of nutrients like B vitamins, folic acid, antioxidant Vitamin E, Biotin, and fiber. B vitamins provide me with natural energy, and the fiber helps me to maintain a healthy weight. The jalapeños aid weight loss and help prevent arthritis. Cucumbers flush out toxins and are great for hydration (so important here in the Cali desert!). I add kale for its anti-inflammatory properties, lemon for Vitamin C, and celery for its antioxidants and fiber.
[Did I mention I’m going on a cruise in one month? Getting bikini ready is one more reason to start my day with this glass full of goodness!]
While I love wanu water in my smoothies, I also enjoy it throughout the day because of its super delish flavors (and pretty packaging, too!)
My favorite flavors (Kiwi Cucumber, Watermelon Raspberry, and Peach Passion) of wanu water were easy to find on the water aisle at my local Albertsons.
Starting your day off with a nutritious smoothie is so easy! I usually prepare the ingredients the night before so I can quickly throw them in the blender when I wake up.
- 3/4 cup sliced cucumber
- 3/4 cup kale
- 1 stalk of celery
- 2 slices of jalapeño, seeds and pulp removed
- 1/2 an apple
- 2 TBS lemon juice
- 1 - 2 cups Kiwi Cucumber wanu water
- 1/4 cup crushed ice
- Place all ingredients in blender and blend for 30 seconds. Pour and enjoy!
- I like a little more heat in mine! If you do too, add more jalapeño to suit your taste.
