Why Women Need a Girl Kind of Weekend

Just imagine 100 women spending an entire weekend together in a beautiful, historic hotel. And not just any 100 women, but 100 creative women who love to blog. That is what I was privileged to experience last weekend in Dallas at The Hundred blogger conference. I still find myself daydreaming about the weekend five days later! It was the perfect girl kind of weekend.

The conference was organized by these four, very-gifted bloggers, Lauren, Megan, Bridget and Grace. They truly did a remarkable job at making us feel ridiculously special. Plus they created an event that provided a wealth of knowledge to both brand-new (like me) and seasoned bloggers. I can’t wait to tell you more about it later!

Now some women (and I know a few of you by name!) shudder at the thought of spending an entire weekend with 100 women, period. But it can be such a positive experience… I promise! Here’s why:

1. There is much to learn from other women. I tend to hang out mostly with other women with whom I have much in common. When I go to an event with LOTS of other women, I really appreciate the conversations that ensue. Conversations that are just different from the everyday. I always end up learning from others, even when I least expect it.
2. Nothing beats all the laughter. When women — especially moms — get away from their daily responsibilities, they experience a relaxed joy that shines on their faces. And laughter comes very easily. I think we even could be described as giddy… especially the young, sleep deprived mommies!
3. Relationships quickly become more transparent. When women have an opportunity to spend a whole weekend together, conversations have a chance to go deeper. We get past the surface stuff to what really matters in life. I love that.
4. New friendships are born. It’s virtually impossible for a woman to leave an event like this without having met a few gal pals. All the ladies I met were so very friendly, and I definitely left with a few new friends. Of course, it helped that we all had at least one thing in common!
5. The blessing of shared thoughts and ideas. At a blogger conference, you might think there would be competition. Nope. None at all! Instead there was collaboration. When women with a common interest get together, everyone benefits through the sharing of stories and ideas. This happens at women’s retreats, knitting groups, play dates and many other gatherings. Women are such great encouragers!

SO… if you are a woman who is skeptical about this kind of weekend, I hope you’ll reconsider in light of all that women can offer to each other. Try it, and I bet you’ll have a winning experience!

xoxo
